Message from the President
Bill Danola
Every month I look to find inspiration for the President’s message. With the recent victory of team U.S.A. at the Ryder Cup, the inspiration for this month seemed pretty easy. All that was left was relating the Ryder Cup to golf at the Ranch. But then I went to a birthday party. A ninetieth birthday party, at that, and no, it wasn’t mine.
As the esteemed gentleman whose birthday we were celebrating said, the celebration was more about what one saw in the room rather than an individual’s birthday. What one saw were individuals who, almost without exception, had volunteered or are currently volunteering for various roles that significantly impact our community. Those roles include service with charitable entities such as the Garden Club, the Historical Society and roles with the Association and Golf Club Boards as well as various committees of those Boards. I believe this highlights the most significant difference between our Golf Club and others. Our Golf Club is inextricably linked with the fabric of our community and is part of its quotidian social life.
The Club also volunteers in its own way. The Club’s primary mission is to provide an outstanding golfing experience for its members. However, we appreciate that we have an obligation to give back to the community and the game of golf. We get more requests to make the course available for charitable golf events than we can accommodate but we are very pleased to host the ones that we do. Recently, the Club hosted two charitable events. The first was Play for Pink which raised funds for breast cancer research. There are few who have not in some way been impacted by this disease. It was an opportunity to have some fun and raise money for a worthy cause. It was an opportunity that many enthusiastically took advantage of as you can see in this month’s Divot. We also recently made the course available for the annual Community Center golf tournament which has always been a very popular fundraiser. The Club is also happy to make the course available for organized amateur golf events to recognize our debt to the game.
This month we launch the interactive feature of the Divot. Please utilize this feature so management and your Board can better know what you want to see at your club. One of the benefits of the electronic delivery of the Divot is that it allows for easier and faster interactive communication. It also saves money. The electronic Divot is set up to open one article at a time because downloading the entire Divot would take an inordinate amount of time.
The Board of Governors meetings are always open to golf members and member input is encouraged. The minutes of the Board meetings are on the website. The agenda is posted and going forward it will also be on the website prior to the meeting.
Vaya Con Dios
P.S. Phil vs. Sergio. Epic.
